Merger Photo Preview

1) I can see in the photo that one of the images of the girl does not include a shadow. The sun might pose to be a problem when shooting a merger photo.
2) I think it would be great to take a merger photo at the picnic tables near the portables.
3) I think it would be interesting to have my subject sitting at different benches and doing different things in my merger photo.
4) I think it would help to wear mutual colored clothing so nothing stands out too much. I feel like it would be harder to get the images to combine.

HDR Photography

1) Use auto-exposure bracketing if possible, If not, just use a tripod.
2) We will need a DSLR camera and a tripod to take an HDR image.
3) Someone might take an HDR image at night, in order to better represent a dark subject. Mainly, HDR images are taken when a photograph has a humongous range of contrast: too much for one image to handle.
4) Once we merge the images together, we might expect to see new light on our image. HDR photos make our brights brighter and our darks darker, So we can expect to see a much more intense photograph.

Final Exam Planning

1) I will shoot this assignment beginning May 8th, as soon as I can get my hands on a camera.
2) I will shoot mostly in downtown austin, but also including my neighborhood, and the trip to downtown.
3) My story will be about my weekend day, beginning with my family, and usually ending at one of my friend's houses or at a show.
4) The only equipment I will need is a DSLR camera capable of shooting video.
5) I plan for my narration to be in the beginning, using it as an introduction. Then I plan to play my video throughout the entire project, and insert still images where they are appropriate.

Final Exam Preview Activity

1.      I learned the basics of creating a new movie in iMovie and navigating between the tools, clips, audio, and so on. First, you must  begin a new project and choose the dimensions for your movie. Then you must select a frame rate, and you can add a theme if you'd like. The iMovie tools are located at the bottom of the screen and the ones in use are displayed at the right.
You can add many things to your footage, such as still images, underlying audio, transitions, and much more. You can use the clip trimmer or precision editor in order to determine the length of your clips. You can also choose a song to run through transitions or maybe continue playing in the end once the footage is over with. All these components can help to create a professional-looking, emotion-filled video.
2. I already knew that you could add music to videos, but the website brought it into detail.
3. I didn't know that the music could keep playing after the footage has ended. Or that you could use music in the introduction before the footage begins.
4. I'm concerned about the video aspect of this project. Creating a cinematic movie is a very hard thing to do.
5. I am confident that I can complete the photo story aspect of my project once I can obtain a camera.
6. If you asked me today, I'd probably shoot a vintage-style video about my lifestyle, including footage with my family and friends. Or maybe I could do a short horror film.

Sports Portfolio Evaluation

Video 1:
a) Travis Haughton
b) General focus: Everyday life
c) Judges wanted to see more of the frame; Too many faces were omitted; A couple pictures were too busy to the eye.
d) Judges liked the sports photos; they liked some of the photos of children.
e) I think the photographer is good but doesn't have interesting ideas. He was photographing things like a man crossing the street or a girl smiling: these are boring. I didn't really like the portfolio.

Video 2:
a) Nick Adams
b)General Focus: Journalistic stories
c)Photographer framed photos poorly (cut off heads and details); A lot of his photos contained too many possible subjects; several of the images were poorly focused or compositioned
d)The judges liked the photographer's originality and ideas, but not his execution. They liked the effort he put into his photos, even if they came out badly.
e)I think Nick Adams was a bad photographer. He was photographing typical things in a poor way. I didn't really like the portfolio.

Video 3:
a) Josh Birnbaum
b) General focus: Sports and portraits
c) Judges didn't like the composition of his photos; the portfolio was paced badly (went from really great photos to really horrible photos); His photos had no story to them.
d) They liked his action shots; they liked the content of his photos but, again, not the execution.
e) I think Josh could've had an amazing portfolio if he put more thought into the subjects of his images and the composition. This is my favorite portfolio so far.

Video 4:
a) Anthony Souffle
b) General Focus: Stories
c) Judges didn't like the genericality of his photos; he didn't have too much originality; they didn't like the content of a lot of his pictures.
d) They liked how his photos were executed, they looked extremely professional; They liked the humor in a few of his photos, which is hard to pull off.
e) I think Anthony has been the best photographer I've seen so far. As for the content, it could use some work. Definitely my favorite portfolio.

Winning Portfolio Critique:
a) The judges liked Dustin's composition in his photos. His pictures had a story behind them and also his subjects were all active in his images.
b) I really liked the range of emotion in his photos: they go from sad to joyous to plain weird. Also he has really original ideas, such as the water photo or the first photo with the guy's teeth. He displays a good use of lots of the elements of photography.

Contest Recap:
The judges went through and remembered the portfolios they liked the most. Then they analyzed what the liked and didn't like about the portfolios. Eventually, they settled on the one with the most diversity and who had the least poor photographs.

Individual Images:
I agree with the judges about the boxing photo in the first video. Even though the referee draws attention away from the actual boxer, I like the element that he adds to the photo. He seems as if he''s mimicing the boxer and also his face is really interesting. I liked this photo from the moment I saw it.

I disagree with the judges about the photograph with the baseball player with a rainbow above his head in the third video. I think it should've won first place because it's composed wonderfully and it is full of emotion. The sky is dark and gloomy, yet the rainbow shows through to add an element of hope and happines to the image. I definitely think it exceded the photo of the sumo wrestler.

Architecture

Architect: Gunter Behnisch.
Built from 1998-2002.
Located in Hannover, Germany.
It is open to the public.
No info on how much it costed.
It was built as a bank which employs around 1,500 people. They started incorporating art into their building and they now have a public courtyard full of restaurants and art all open to the public.
I picked this building because it looks extremely new-age and futuristic. It's a bank, but also is filled with beautiful modern art and is full of families and people enjoying themselves in the courtyard. I would love to visit this building at some point in my life.

Architect: Javier Senosiain.
Built in 2006-2007.
Located in Mexico City, Mexico.
It is not open to public, it's a house for a family.
Couldn't find info on how much it costed.
Javier Senosiain and his family grew tired of regular old houses. They wanted to incorporate nature into their new home and this specific one is inspired by a mollusk shell.
I chose this building because I love the interior design. The house is spacious, well-lit, yet cozy at the same time. I also think the stained glass was a really nice touch, it gives the entire space a surreal feeling.

 Architect: Moshe Sadie
Built in 1967.
Built in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Costed around 22..2 million dollars.
It's not open to the public, you must be a resident of the complex.
Sadie was approached by her old advisor to help design the complex for the world fair in Montreal.
I chose this building because it his one of the most unique looking buildings I've ever come across, I've never seen complex's stacked up in this fashion.

Architect: Piet Plom
Started being build in 1963.
Located in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
You must be a resident of the household in order to view it. (not open to public).
Can't find any info on how much it costed.
These houses were built in order to house residents: they were going for something really unique.
I chose these houses because they are unlike anything I've seen before. They look almost unpractical to use as a living space. I was extremely surprised when I discovered these were designed in the 80's: they seem really modern.

Architect: Matti Suuronen
They were built in 1978.
Located in Sanzhi, Taiwan.
Yes: they are open to the public because they are abandoned. Although, they are haunted.
Can't find info on the cost.
These structures were originally purposed for tourists and soldiers as a vacation resort. Construction stopped shortly after it began because of a series of car accidents and a suicide at the location.
I chose these because they truly do look like UFO's. Their reputation fits the creepy look too. Construction on these houses stopped because the entire area was considered a ghost town. Builders destroyed a ceremonial dragon statue and unearthed an old Dutch burial ground, so it makes sense that it's haunted.

Action Shoot Photos

Commodity City Warm Up

1. I think Seymour's statement is entirely true. Humans define themselves by the objects they own.
Yes, I definitely want to visit Commodity City now that I've seen these pictures. It seems like a wonderful, surreal place.
To be the child of someone who worked at Commodity City, I think it would be a wonderland. Always being able to explore new things: clothes, toys, novelties, everything I could imagine.
My favorite photo is the one of the booth filled with inflatable balls. It's ironic because the man is laying there, seemingly bored while he's surrounded by these intense splashes of color.

Front Pages of the World (Intro to Newspaper Design)

1. I like the Courrier Picard from Amiens, France the most. It is very clean-cut and organized, yet it still contains some pretty interesting photos.
2. My favorite headline is "La Future Piscine Se Decouvre". It means "The Future Swimming Pool is Discovered". I like swimming so this article sticks out to me.
3. There are five stories on the front of this magazine.
4. All newspaper front covers contain a minimum of three stories and usually around 5 pictures.
5. Some newspapers use very dynamic colors and big letters, while others are more professional. The amount of text and pictures on the front cover varies from magazine to magazine.
